Help with our Kokoda TrekTraka Map

Picture
SPOT Messenger tracking device
How does this system work?
TrekTraka uses the real-time GPS location of an individual expedition as a trigger for issuing posts to your friends and family via social media platforms, so they know where you are.

TrekTraka uses the SPOT Messenger personal tracking device to obtain the GPS location of an expedition and sends this location back periodically to be displayed within our friends and family TrekTraka interactive map.

The proximity of the expedition group to pre-defined geo-referenced points of interest automatically triggers social media posts that are instantly posted to the Facebook or Twitter pages of your friends and family during your trek.

What is the Trip Code?
Normally you will not need to know the trip code so you can see the map as the Facebook post or Twitter message will have a link in it containing the code also. This web link will take you directly to the correct expedition map using the trip code associated with your friends/relatives expedition.

How do I use the map to see things?
The map is very similar to Google Maps or Google Earth where you use your mouse to pan around the map by clicking and dragging the map to where you want, and using the zoom buttons to zoom in and out. There is more help available on the map by clicking on the question mark in the top right hand corner of the map.

Help, why isn't the Expedition group moving on the map?
Not every expedition will use the TrekTraka system so you will need to check when with your expedition guide before leaving. When you register for your expedition you will be asked if you wish to participate, and shortly before leaving for your trek the TrekTraka system will contact you to ask which Facebook and Twitter accounts you would like to post to.

How do I track my friend on an expedition?
If you are "friends" with your friend/family member on Facebook you will see the TrekTraka posts being put on their wall. Click on the post web link to view the family and friends map so you can monitor their progress.
